In a written statement, attorney Myron Penn said, “We are blessed and proud to be a testament that through hard work, compassion, and dedication by everyone on our staff, we have continued our services for an entire decade for many families we have known all of our lives. While it is very hard to keep anything together for 10 years these days, we have enjoyed our responsibility to the people and are very thankful for the opportunities we have been given to serve them.” Attorney Shane Seaborn added, “Over the years, we have given back to the community and have helped people shape their future, and we have also stood for them during some of the most tragic times in their lives to make the best out of bad situations. We now look forward to our future together, and we trust that with God’s help we will continue to grow and work hard for our community for many years to come.”

To commemorate its 10-year anniversary, PENN & SEABORN is again giving back to the community by donating $1,000 to the Department of Human Resources in Barbour and Bullock counties to assist with funding for local foster children, as well as $1000 to the American Cancer Society for cancer research. The law firm is now in the process of opening a third office in Eufaula later this year and will then have a location near each of the three courthouses in the 3rd Judicial Circuit of Alabama.

Nearly 100 civil and public servants enjoyed a “Smokin Hole” BBQ lunch on Friday afternoon, and local artist Wayne Mills, provided live entertainment of Saturday night. “This is an event we host every year as a way to salute and thank those people who have dedicated themselves to keeping our communities and our neighbors safe,” said Myron Penn. “We always have a great turnout for this event, and this year was certainly no different.

On March 24, 2011, the Bullock County High School Youth Leadership Class toured various businesses throughout Bullock County. We enjoyed meeting the students and over lunch in the patio area of our law building. The leadership class is directed by Bullock County Extension Officer George Tabb.

The intersection of Highways 82 and 110 have come from a vacant, barren spot to a wonderfully historic looking building – inside and out.

The modem interior combined with relics and pictures from the past give it an almost museum-like quality. You will find on the lovely back porch an homage to the old Ballerina Club that sat on the spot for many years. It is surely a lovely place to work and to tour as did the many people present for the
open house on February 11th.

The pair could well have the only two-man biracial law firm in Alabama. If not, there can’t be many more around the state.

The roots of their firm sprouted in a car a decade ago as the two, along with friends, drove to Birmingham to watch a high school basketball tournament.

Their team won and on the way back home, politics replaced sports. Penn, who was chairman of the Bullock County Commission at the time, said he was thinking of running for the state Senate.

One thing led to another and, before long, Seaborn became Penn’s top aide and biggest booster in what turned out to be a successful campaign against state Sen. George Clay.

“Even though our differences were obvious, we both had many similarities, and they extended beyond our love of hunting and fishing,” Penn said. “People could see how well we got along, and I’m sure that helped us win.”

Seaborn said he jumped at the opportunity to help Penn with his campaign, but neither man gave much thought to becoming partners at the time.

“It just wasn’t in the cards right then, but when Myron won the Senate seat, the ball starting rolling in that direction,” he said. “We didn’t have any money at first to take on a powerful senator, but we proved we could do it. We knew then that we could do the same thing as law partners.”

Tia Davis Boykins, a resident of Clayton, recently celebrated her 10-year anniversary as a legal secretary with the Law Firm of Penn & Seaborn, L.L.C. with offices in Cîayton and Union Springs.

Tia is 1994 graduate of Clayton High School and holds an Associate’s Degree in Legal Studies from Kaiser University. She is an active member of Jones Chapel AME Church in Clayton, and is just as active in her community as she serves as secretary of the Barbour County Middìe School Parent-Teacher Organization, a member of the West Barbour Martin Luther King, Jr., Day Program, and an officer of the Southeast Alabama Women’s Missionary Society of the AME Church.

Tia is also a Women’s Missionary Society Youth Counselor and a United States Army Reserve Veteran. She is married to Michael Boykins, also of Clayton. They have three children: Nasasha, Micah, and Tiana.
